This Ganapati was consecrated by Morya Gosavi. He attained (samadhi) here. This tradition continued for seven subsequent generations. It is said that at all these (samadhi) sites, a stone idol of Ganapati was found. These idols have been consecrated at their respective sites.

Festival: The temple celebrates a four day festival from Margashirsh vadya trutiya to shashthi.

The Ganapati here is supposed to be the incarnation of Lenyadri Ganapati (one of the Ashtavinayakas) This temple is more than 125 years old.

The temple is privately owned and celebrates two festivals each – one from Bhadrapad Shuddha 1st to 5th and Magh Shuddha 4th to 10th.

Junnar

It is widely believed that this temple is more than 325 (check) years old. This Ganapati is the tutelar divinity (Gramdaivat) of the village. It celebrates pious functions for five days from Bhadrapad Shuddha 1st to 5th.

Lonavala

Located in Lonavala, which is about 60 km from Pune, this Ganapati temple is the private property of Mr. Bhonde. This temple celebrates a festival from Magh Shuddha 1st to 5th.

Ambawade

This temple is located in a farm at village Ambawade which is about 15 km from Bhor.

Kasaba Peth.

This idol was found by Shivaji and his mother Jijabai after a divine appearance in a dream. When Shahaji Maharaj build a castle, Jijabai consecrated the idol. This Ganapati is self existent (Swayambhu) and is the tutelar divinity (Gramdaivat) of Pune. It is also known by the name of Jayati Ganapati.

This temple celebrates Bhadrapad, Magh, and Jyeshtha festivals from 1st to 5th.

Thorle Madhavrao Peshwe had a divine dream to restore this place which used to be a lake. It was duly filled up and a temple was erected here. Later, Sawai Madhavrao Peshwe sanctified an idol of Ganapati based on the 'Chintamani Ganesh' of Thevoor. Now even this idol has been replaced.

Shaniwar Peth

This temple is famous since the times of Lokamanya Tilak. This temple celebrates its festival in Bhadrapad Shuddha from 1st to the 5th.

  • Dashabhuja Chintamani

Chintamaninagar, Parvati

This Ganapati was discovered while digging a well in a private plot at Laxminagar near Parvati. As per the wishes of the Lord himself, it was named as Chintamanitirth and consecrated on 22 – 12 – 1964. Although the temple is built recently, the idol is very ancient.

The temple is privately owned. The temple celebrates religious ceremonies from 1st of Chaitra Shuddha to the 3rd of Vaishakh.

On the banks of Nagazari, Somwar Peth

This temple is famous for its special architecture. This ancient temple depicts a rare idol of Ganapati having three heads, six hands and astride a peacock. The temple is privately owned.

Nandgaon (Murud)

Nandgaon is located about 8 km from Janjira and 200 km from Mumbai. This Ganapati is self existent (Swayambhu). The temple is famous since the 14th century. The anniversary of this Vinayak is celebrated on Magh Chaturthi.

  • Shriram Siddhivinayak

Kanakeshwar, Alibaug.

Kanakeshwar is located in a deep forest atop a hill at a height of about 2000 ft from sea level. One has to climb 750 steps to reach the temple. The temple of Siddhi Vinayak is located to the north of a small lake (Pushkarni) near the Shiva temple. The hill is shaped like a tortoise. It is said that such a place is conducive for penance.

  • Vinayakasth Siddhivinayak

Vinayak, Uran, Panvel.

This temple is about 700-800 years old from the era of King Hambirraj. The village is name after the temple.

  • Digambar Siddhivinayak

Kadav, Karjat.

The Dhule family discovered this idol while tilling their farm. Hence it is known as their tutelar deity. Nana Phadnis restored the temple.

Festival: Every year Magh Shuddha Pratipada to panchami.

Ratnagiri

  • Pulyacha Ganapati

Ganapatipule.

Apart from the Ashtavinayakas, this temple is one of the better known places in Maharashtra. It is mentioned in the Mudgal Puran. Located near the sea shore, at the foothills of a 300 ft. high verdant hillock, this temple faces the west. The idol is in free form; with only two tusks visible distinctly. The architecture of the temple is highly aesthetic. The old temple is now being renovated.

Festival: For 5 days in the Hindu months of Bhadrapad and Magh from 1st to 5th.

  • Parshuram Ganesh

Parshuram, Chiplun.

It was consecrated in the year 1785. The trunk of the Lord curves to the right, which is rare.

  • Ganeshwadicha Ganapati

Ganeshwadi, Shirol.

Trimbak Hari consecrated the idol and built the temple. This temple is among the 56 Vinayakas. This ancient temple is located along the banks of River Krishna. The idol faces east.

Festival : In Bhadrapad from shuddha pratipada to panchami.

  • Joshirao Ganapati (Binkhambi Ganesh)

The Ganesh idol was discovered while repairing a well. Although the temple has been built in 1882, the idol is believed to be much older. The specialty of this temple is that it has no support pillars.

Festival : Bhadrapad shuddha 1st to 14th.

  • Sakshi Ganesh

Kolhapur City

The specialty of this Ganapati is that it is a standing idol facing the doors of the temple.

  • Shilaharancha Ganapati

Kasaba Beed.

It is believed that this temple is about 800 years old. Located about 16 km from Kolhapur, this temple is situated at the confluence of the rivers Bhogawati and Tulsi. The idol of the Lord is about 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide.

  • Inchnalacha Ganapati

Mouje Inchanal, Gadhinglaj

Gopal Appaji Kulkarni renovated this temple in the year 1907-08. The architectural style is of the Peshwa era. The idol is carved out of a single stone and is about 2 ft tall with 4 hands. The trunk of idol is pointing towards left.

  • Ganapati Panchayatan

Tasgaon

This temple was erected in the year 1707. This temple, as the name suggests, houses the idols of five deities. Shree Siddhi Vinayak occupies the central place. On its right is the temple of Uma Rameshwar, and on its left is the temple of Shree Vishnu. There are also temples of Suryanarayan and Uma Devi in the same premises. All the idols face east. The main hall is decorated with paintings depicting mythological stories and chandeliers. The idol of Ganapati is carved out of white flint stone. It is about 1.5 ft tall and is resting on a throne.

Festival : The temple celebrates two festivals. The first is on Falgun Shuddha Dwitiya, when the idol was consecrated, and the second is in Bhadrapad shuddha chaturthi from shuddha pratipada to shuddha shashthi.

  • Ganapati Devsthan

Sangli City

This temple is one of the famous temples in south Maharashtra for its artistic construction. The temple is built out of black stone made available from the hills of Jyotiba. The premise of the temple is huge, covering a sprawling two acres. It comprises of a platform, an excellent hall and a nagarkhana. The door of the sanctum is carved out of different colored natural wood. The idol of Lord Ganesh was consecrated in the central temple in 1843. The temple is located on eastern bank of river Krishna.

The poojamurti of the Lord is made out of copper and is astride a lion. The utsavmurti is very beautiful and taller than the poojamurti. It is located in such a way that it is visible from any road in Ganapati Peth. On some specific days, the dawning sun's rays illuminate the idol's face.

Festival : For five days from Bhadrapad Shuddha Chaturthi.

Satara

  • Dholya Ganapati

Wai

This huge temple is located along the Krishna River. It was built in 1762 by Raja Bhoja of the Shilahar dynasty to protect the town. The idol was consecrated in the year 1769 in the Hindu month of Vaishakh shuddha the 13th. It took then a whopping Rs. 1.5 lakh and 10 years of work to complete this temple.

The temple is made out of finished stone. The inner sanctum is spacious, with a huge hall in the front. A stone floor covers the whole temple. The rear part of the temple is shaped like a fish. This structure proves useful in case of a flood as it protects the temple. The Ganapati idol is carved out of monolith, and is about 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide. The deity is acquired it name Dholya Ganapati from its massive size.

Festival : On 13th of Vaishakh month every month. Also seven days in Bhadrapad.

  • Shahukalin Ganapati

Angapur

This 4 inch tall and 3 inch wide self existent (Swayambhu) Ganesh idol was found while excavating a well. A temple was built on this spot and a 3 ft tall Utsavmurti consecrated.

This temple is a exquisite work of art. No wood is used anywhere in its construction. The 200 by 150 ft wide hall is sans any pillars.

Festival : A big religious function is held in Bhadrapad from 1st to 5th. One interesting fact is that the whole community celebrates this function collectively in the temple.

  • Khindicha Ganapati

This serene temple of Ganapati is built on the south slopes of Fort Ajinkyatara, which is to the south of Satara. This sitting idol is made of wax, shendur and raal.

Pandharpur

This temple is located about 7 km from Pandharpur and is built in the Hemadpanth style.

  • Swayambhu Ganeshmurti

Akkalkot

This is a Mandar idol with its trunk pointing upwards. It is reputed that this idol emerged on August 4, 1966 which was Shravani Sankashti Chaturthi. It was sanctified in the very next month on September 18, 1966.

Ahmednagar

  • Maliwada Ganapati

Ahmednagar City.

This ancient temple is located in the south part of Ahmednagar. It faces the east. There is a large hall and an old stone fountain in front of the temple. The idol has its trunk curving to the right.

Festival : Every Sankashti Chaturthi and Magh shuddha Chaturthi. On Anantchaturdashi, the immersion procession of the Lord is carried out in a wooden chariot. This Ganesh is revered as the most prestigious in the city.

  • Akshatya Ganapati

Ahmednagar city.

This temple is more than 225 years old. The idol has its trunk curving to the right. It is a self existent (Swayambhu) Ganapati. Whenever there is a marriage in the city, the sacred rice (akshata) is showered on the Lord first. Hence the name.

  • Shrikshetra Mayureshwar

Kopargaon

This Mayureshwar is having equal importance as that of Ashtavinayakas in Maharashtra. There used to be a huge festival on every Sankashti Chaturthi.

  • Modakeshwar

This Ganapati is known by the name of 'Hingnyancha Ganapati' in Nashik. It is one of the 56 Ganapati kshetras.

  • About 4o km to the north of Nashik is the temple of Saptashrungi Devi atop a hill. There is a Ganesh kunda about 10 km from the foothills. A Ganesh temple is located here.

  • Bhuyareshwar Ganapati

Manjrod, Shirpur

This is one tunnel of Ganapati on the bank of river Tapi near Manjrod. This tunnel is said to be from bc. 300. This tunnel is about 70 meter long. It is said that this is the only tunnel of Ganapati in Maharashtra.

  • There is a Ganapati from the Peshwe era on the Dhule - Agra road. The idol has its trunk curving to the right.

  • There is an ancient Ganapati temple in Bhoigalli in old Dhule.

Erendol.

Among the two and a half Shree Ganapati Peeths in India, this is regarded as the half Peeth. It is called as Padmalaya Kshetra.

This temple is located at the top of a hill. There are small Ganapati temples on all sides of the main temple. There are two self existent (Swayambhu) Ganesh idols in the sanctum. One idol has its trunk curving to the right and the other to the left. Both the idols have silver crown.

Festival : On Bhadrapad shuddha 4. Also a religious fair is held on Kartiki Pournima.

  • Chintamani

Kalamb.

This temple, known as Shree Kshetra Kalamb, is one of the 21 Ganesh kshetras. The construction of this temple is simple yet elegant. A four headed Ganesh idol is located in the visible area of the temple. Four Ganesh idols have been carved in a single stone albeit on all the four sides. There is a square kund after descending the chairs. The main Chintamani idol is located in the sanctum. Two Shankar pindi are located on both sides of this temple. There is also a beautiful idol of Anusuya carved out of black stone.

  • Ekchakra Ganesh

Kelzar.

This temple has been erected in this place where the Pandavas killed Bakasura. Kelzar is located about 25 km from Wardha on the Nagpur - Wardha highway. The idol has its trunk curving to the right.

(Kshetra Adosh) Awasa

This mammoth idol is made of Kashmir marble and is about 18 ft tall and 7 ft wide. The trunk curves to the right. It has 10 hands and is astride a lion. The temple itself is on a hillock, facing east.

  • Sitabardi Killyacha Ganapati

Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Earlier, this idol was in the open, underneath a tree. Now it has been shifted to a temple in the south-east corner of the Shukrawar lake opposite the statue of Tilak in Nagpur. The trunk curves to the right. This marble temple is privately owned. The era of establishment seems to be of the Bhosale's.

  • Ganesh Leni

Ajantha, Soygaon

These carvings have been unearthed in the deep interior of the Ajantha leni.. They are carved in a single 850 ft high stone. Crystal clear water pours from the top with a roar. There is a small teerth kund at the bottom. This is the origin of the river Waghur. There is a dell in this leni. It is about 40 by 50 ft and about 12 ft high. The Ganesh idol is carved about at a height of about 4 ft in the central wall. The column to the right depicts Narasinha and the one on the left a Natraj at a height of 3 ft. The idol is in a siddhasan position and facing east. It is exquisite and looks pleasant. This 5 by 5 ft idol is covered with shendur.

A famous farmer in Ajantha, Shree Gajananrao found a small Ganesh idol with its trunk curving to the right while farming. There is a temple of Dashdurga Devi where this idol was found. It is assumed that it belongs to the Ashmayuga

Some new carvings have been discovered about 13 km from Ajantha at Rudreshwar. A 6-7 ft tall and 4-5 ft Ganesh idol was found here.

The temple has been build by Ahilyabai. The style is Hemandpanti. The original idol is very diminutive and very ancient. It has been transferred from its original place to a neighboring temple. The current idol is about 200-250 years old. It is about 2.5 ft tall and 1.5 ft wide. The idol faces east.

A very small Ganesh idol depicted as a child is carved on a stone pillar in the Ambejogai temple. Devotees are encouraged to visit this Ganesh before and after paying a visit to the Devi.

There is a place called Ganeshpaar in the Rawiwar area where this temple is located. The idol is 2 ft high and 1.5 ft wide, and faces east.

Bhrushudivarad has established this kshetra. It is one of the renowned Ganesh sthana in the Marathwada region. Earlier, this place was called as Asapurak Amalashram. This picturesque spot is located at the confluence of three rivers viz. Karpura, Bindusura and Narada.A Ganesh temple is located here.

  • VidnyanGanesh Kshetra

Rakshashbhuvan

Sati Anusuya , the chaste and faithful wife of Aatri Krushi had regressed the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesha, who had arrived to test her chastity, to their childhood form. But at the behest of their respective wives, Sati Anusuya and Aatri Krushi reverted the Gods to their original form. However, they requested the Gods to grant them their divine spirit in the form of a child. The child propagated from this Trinity is God Dutta. The Vidnyan Ganesh temple is located about 55 km from Jalna railway station. It is on the outskirts of the village, on the southern bank of river Godavari in an area called as Baug.

The Vidnyan Ganesh idol was excavated about 225 years back after a Visionary called Shankarbua Mangalmurti, who was an ardent Ganesha devotee, had a Divine Vision (Drushtant). Nowadays, the place is managed by his disciples who carry out the routine rites and rituals.

Festival : Birth date on Jyestha shuddha 4th.

LimbaGanesh

This is a well known Ganesh temple in Marathwada. The idol is about 2.5 ft tall, has four hands and faces east.

There is a Ganesh temple to the north of the east ghat while proceeding to the famous Vaijanath Shiva temple at Parali Vaijanath in Beed district. The idol is grand and attractive. The idol is sans a face and is sitting like a wrestler. It is a tradition to visit this temple before visiting the Vaijanth temple.
